Carrie Howell is a dynamic nonprofit leader whose career began at just 24, when she became the Executive Director of a therapeutic home for teen girls. That early role sparked a deep commitment to mission-driven work, which has defined her career across sectors including behavioral health, healthcare, and patient advocacy. Carrie’s leadership experience includes serving as Executive Director of both Hospitality House of Charlotte and the Dup15q Alliance, a patient advocacy organization supporting individuals with Dup15q syndrome. She has also made a significant impact as a nonprofit consultant, eventually becoming the CEO of a nonprofit consulting firm, and has held numerous board leadership roles, lending her strategic expertise to a range of causes. Her contributions to the nonprofit sector have earned her recognition as one of Charlotte’s 50 Most Influential Women and the prestigious Brava Award from SmartCEO. A Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE), Carrie attributes much of her success to the mentorship she’s received throughout her journey and remains committed to mentoring others in turn. Today, Carrie serves as the CEO of the American Migraine Foundation, where she is honored to advocate on behalf of those living with migraine and to combat the stigma surrounding this often misunderstood disease.
